Skott is one of those unique artists that comes around every so often and carves out a lane of her own. We’ve been fascinated by each of the releases from this Swedish alternative pop singer, songwriter and producer, and her newest single ‘Talk About Me’ hasn’t failed to capture our attention this time either. It’s built on folksy melodies and a joyful chart-topping pop production. Doused in upbeat electronica, Skott’s saccharine vocals spin the idea of pop culture, materialism and the pursuit of fame on its head. As the prolific creative tells us: It’s a quirky song, about a little girl who loses her mind to narcissism while chasing her big dreams. [...] The lyrics tell a story about a little girl who dreams about fame, and it distorts into madness, like she’s losing her mind. But we learn that in reality, she just feels invisible.” The character created for ‘Talk About Me’ is almost the antithesis to the humble Skott, whose cartoon version is plunged into an “outer space Hollywood-type alternate universe.” Directed alongside Paras IV, this ballsy pop song ends with a bittersweet reality that has you rethinking any judgements that you may have originally made about the girl with her head in the clouds. - Hannah Thacker
